Tracking Classes
Download our registration forms or pick one up at our campus. Class registration forms and a canine profile must be on file with W.A.G.S. prior to you entering the training ring. Registrations can be mailed, faxed or dropped off at our campus. We accept phone reservations. We would appreciate having registrations filled out prior to coming to your first class. If you are unable to do so please arrive 15 minutes prior to your first class. We don't want to take any time away from designated training time.
Head Tracking Instructor
Michael Baker
Michael Baker has raised/trained/titled and coached multiple dogs to success, ranging from the Canine Good Citizens to a Police Service Dog. He has just retired his competition dog Varak du Chenil Victoire. Varak is a Belgian Malinois that Michael has taken to multiple National Championships. Currently he is raising a young female Belgian Malinois named Notoire du Loups du Soleil. He also works on the Board of Directors for the American Working Malinois Association and is a member of multiple sport and police dog organizations.
Tracking 1: Getting Yourself and Your Dog Ready To Track
The objective of this class is to introduce the handler and dog to the foundation of tracking. Classes will include:
- Tools Needed For Tracking Your Dog
- The Many Styles of Tracking and Training A Tracking Dog
- Track Construction And How The Weather And Environment Is Involved
- The Handlers Job
- Beginning Scent Discrimination
- Reading and Handling Your Dog
Tracking classes meet for 4 weeks, 1.5 hour sessions $99 per dog/handler team
Level 1 tracking classes will begin on April 28th at 11am
Classes will be outside, dress appropriately.
Tracking 2: Introduction Of Corners And Articles
Prerequisite: Tracking 1
This course expands on the learned skills from the beginners foundation tracking. These classes will include:
- Laying The Track
- Advanced Track Construction
- Teaching The Corners
- Article Indication
- When To Move On To Greater Distance And Older Tracks
- How To Work With The Slow Or Fast Dogs
Tracking class meets weekly for 4 weeks, 1.5 hour sessions $99 per dog/handler team
Level 2 tracking classes will begin on may 1st at 6:30 pm
Classes will be outside, dress appropriately.
PRIVATE TRACKING CLASS
Private lessons available in tracking $75 per hour
